What Travel Taught Me About Letting Go and Leaning In

I've lived in some pretty incredible places—San Diego, Key West, and Hawaii (twice!)—and now, I call North Carolina home. But beyond the beauty and bucket-list vibes, travel has done something much deeper for me: it’s taught me how to let go, lean in, and grow through discomfort.

Because the truth is, it wasn’t just planes and palm trees—it was faith, risk, reinvention, and a lot of surrender.

So if you're standing at the edge of a big decision, a major move, or just craving change, I want to share a bit of what travel has taught me—lessons I still carry into motherhood, marriage, and entrepreneurship.

1. Letting Go Is an Act of Faith

When we moved our family from California to North Carolina, it wasn’t just a change of scenery—it was a complete leap of faith. We got a lot of pushback from family and friends who didn’t understand why we were leaving. It stirred up fears and tension, and on top of that, we faced a massive custody battle that nearly broke us (but that’s a blog post for another day).

Still, something in me knew this move was the right thing—not just for our family, but for me. I needed a reset. I needed space to rediscover who I was outside of all the noise.

And I’ve learned this: you can’t step into what’s next if your hands are still clinging to what was. Letting go doesn’t mean giving up. It means creating room for something greater to grow.

2. You Can Be Rooted and Still Wander

Have you ever felt a pull in your heart toward a specific place—almost like an infatuation? That was me with North Carolina. I didn’t know why, but something deep inside whispered, "There’s a part of your story waiting for you there."

I’ve followed that pull more than once—and each time, it brought growth, challenge, and clarity.

Travel taught me that you can stay grounded in your identity, your faith, and your purpose, even when everything around you is unfamiliar. Wandering doesn't mean you're lost—it means you're brave enough to explore what might be.

3. Discomfort Is the Gateway to Flourishing

Let’s be real: change is uncomfortable. Uprooting your life, starting over, parenting through instability, walking into the unknown—it all feels heavy.

But I’ve learned that discomfort is where transformation begins. It forces you to show up differently, to stretch your mindset, to ask hard questions. The growth I’ve experienced in these moments has been nothing short of sacred.

I didn't flourish in spite of the discomfort. I flourished because I walked through it. There is strength in pushing through what feels impossible. That’s where the real you is revealed.

4. The Journey Changes You—If You Let It

Travel doesn’t just take you somewhere new—it takes you deeper into yourself.

It teaches you to release expectations. To surrender control. To embrace adventure and adapt when things go sideways. You meet new people, discover hidden parts of yourself, and begin to see the world—and your place in it—differently.

I’ve come to believe that whether you’re moving across the country, booking a solo weekend away, or just stepping outside your comfort zone, you’re being invited into something more: growth, healing, perspective, purpose.

And the beautiful part? You don’t have to do it alone.

If You’re Ready for Change, I’m Here for It

Whether you're navigating a new season of motherhood, feeling disconnected from yourself, or just craving something more, I’d love to walk with you.
